a real office?

Yeah, so it's not really music... but it'll do. I sat down today in my new office, and I was astonished, and weirded out a bit. The entire Information Systems department (something on the order of 100 people) are all spaciously (m)allocated on this floor.

[yeah, malloc was a geek joke... but also for real. The layout is spacious, but counterintuitive. I find myself rounding corners and running into other peoples' cubes thinking that it's a hallway. it's like a maze.]

Anyways, I sat down for a second, and there's strange ambient noise. Is this what a real office is supposed to sound like? Tons of people I don't know, and faint distant overlapping voices; some being closer than others. The occasional beeps, laughs, and whispering conversations. Phones ringing from this cube to that.

I think I am going to bring in my MiniDisc recorder, or get a recording device for my iPod to get the ambient noise.

My cube is huge... but I need some people walking by detection. I should bring in my X10 hardware, and rig it to an LED in front of my monitor. For being in the corner, there's quite a bit of traffic.

Woahs, the lights just went out for half the floor (a quarter of a Philadelphia city block). And I thought Edison had a power problem. Hah. Nah it's just someone playing with the lights.

I'll try and get an MOV file up. For those of you who know, [info]funjon, the building is 833.

conucopia of phood...

woah... so I am trying to find the color printer, and I pass the new huge kitchen... they have breakfast for us! All sorts of bagels, croissants, fruit, array of crackers, and 5 different types of cheeses, cream cheese, butter, milk, OJ, sodas...

dzang! I could get used to this!
